2020 was a challenging year for one and all. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the parents and grandparents sponsorship for 2020 was delayed. On October 5, 2020, the government of Canada announced an intake for parents and grandparents sponsorship for a maximum of 10,000 applications for 2020 intake. In 2021, CIC will open a new intake of interest to sponsor forms to accept a total of 30,000 new applications.

1. Between October 13, 2020, to November 3, 2020, Canadian and permanent residents had a chance to enter into a draw who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada as permanent residents as long as the sponsor is eligible to do so.
